The National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP), Montana Code Annotated, and Montana Administrative Rules define the requirements for facility asbestos-related renovation and building demolition activities. Prior to any renovation or demolition activity being conducted on or in facilities, an asbestos survey must be conducted, by a Montana-accredited asbestos inspector, to determine the presence of asbestos in or on the portion of the facility to be affected. Any asbestos-containing material (ACM) that will be impacted by renovation or demolition activities must be removed by Montana-accredited personnel from the facility and properly disposed of at an appropriate landfill. All asbestos-related activities and demolitions of facilities or portions of facilities must be notified to the Asbestos Control Program two weeks prior to the start of any activity that will impact ACM or begin demolition activities.
